Harvest Wedding Brooklin Ontario

May 21, 2017

A relaxed non-traditional wedding was exactly what Katrina had in mind when planning her intimate celebration with Adam at Harvest in Brooklin. The day was about sharing their love with the people who mean so much to them and abandoning traditional parts of the day that didn’t feel authentic to them as a couple. It can be tough to commit to your own path with the well intentioned opinions of loved ones, but it’s honestly the greatest feeling to focus on the things that matter and do away with the rest. I loved everything about their day and it was clear their guests did too. Following their first look and shots at home, Katrina and Adam chose to walk down the aisle together before standing with their closest friends and family. It was incredibly sweet to see the two of them hand in hand so relaxed and happy together. They wanted each of their guests to feel equally important, so they opted for no bridal party or ‘best people’ assembled next to them.

Confession. I’ve had these images lined up and ready to go for quite a while, months actually. I find it extra challenging to include words with photos when I have a relationship with the couple. I’ve known Katrina for almost 20 years and have always admired her. She’s strong, thoughtful, hilarious, intimidatingly smart (I should probably have her proofread this) and of course, beautiful. She and Adam are actually  high school sweethearts and I’ve had the chance to get to know him as well over the years. He’s equally intelligent, handsome, and apparently not so secretly romantic! Looking back on their wedding photos, I’m reminded of that glow that surrounded these two on their wedding day and just how much love exists between them.

Although Katrina opted for a simple day, it was not short on thoughtful details. She poured her heart into everything she crafted and considered each of her wedding guests every step of the way. My favourite detail, custom paper flowers that featured a meaningful memento or photo inside. These gorgeous creations were featured on the bouquets, boutonnieres, centerpieces and favours. Katrina can describe this best, so scroll down for more from her on this.

It seems K&A had the perfect day they had envisioned. Good company, perfect weather, amazing food, and meaningful details. The day seemed to flow so effortlessly and was full of joy and love. Thanks again for inviting me to document your love story. x

What was most important to you on your wedding day? What made it memorable?

We wanted a simple relaxed day that was easy for everyone. We wanted it to be free of the obligation of certain seemingly mandatory traditions. We wanted good food and a great time with our closest friends and family. We walked down the aisle together, no garter toss, no bouquet toss. We wanted to be inclusive, having everyone feel equally important so no bridal party either.

For our 4 year anniversary Adam made me a paper flower bouquet with flowers that folded open. Each one revealed a love note or a photos of us. I loved it and I am very sentimental. It was important to me to have them in my wedding. The florist was very accommodating and made my dream come true. Every person had a flower on their name card that said thank you inside. All the centrepieces had flowers that opened with pictures from our engagement shoot. Most importantly each corsage and boutonniere had a photo specific to the wearer, carrying the photo of a close loved one who had passed. E.g Adams father had a picture of his late wife and my mother had a picture of her late parents. All of our immediate departed relatives were with us in some way.

Music was also important. Our walking down the aisle song “Lets Get Married” by The Proclaimers was significant for us and set the tone for the ceremony (fun and relaxed) as we walked in together.  Our exit song “Follow You Follow Me” by Gowan is nice and very literal.  Our first dance “You’ve Made Me So Very Happy” by Blood Sweat and Tears.
